VENEXIANA SS09 MBFW
Since its launch in 2003, Venexiana has built a house on over-the-top femininity for the socializing set. Think satin ruched dresses, Swarovski bedazzling and marabou trim. That said, her showing at New York Fashion Week did not disappoint. Looks veered heavily towards cocktail and evening wear in a muted palette of dusty pinks and shades of Prussian blues. Designer Kati Stern was originally an architect in Budapest before making the move to fashion, which perhaps explained the stiffer construction on some of the dresses with corsets holding everything tidy. Interestingly, the stronger looks were her flowing, cut on the bias dresses, including a floral floor-length stunner that looked more relevant to today's mobile woman. by Bee-Shyuan Chang.
VENEXIANA
Kati Stern, the designer behind the brand Venexiana, was born in Europe. She was raised and educated in both Europe and New York. The strong mix of cultures and sensibilities makes her unique on both continents.
Stern studied fashion, architecture and music. A music prodigy from the age of four and a winner of various prestigious awards as a fashion student, Stern followed her career as an architectural and interior designer. She became a sought-after designer in Europe and the USA. Working with diverse materials, textures and colors and with structures of all dimensions, has inspired her on every level. Buying and restoring her second home in an important Venetian Palazzo changed her life. Hence, Venexiana LTD. was born - a New York/Venice-based fashion company.
The Spring/Summer 2009 collection showcases luxury dressing with couture-inspired cocktail, exquisite evening gowns including a nod to Venexiana bridal and young-spirited and chic separates - all with the Venexiana edge. Fabrics are showcased in snakeskin, chiffons and silks - many with gold threading and embellished with Swarovski crystals. Waistlines are emphasized with belts in croc and snakeskin with Swarovski buckles.
Kati had her first fashion show in New York when she debuted her spring/summer 2004 collection. All of her subsequent collections have garnered significant attention from the worldwide fashion industry. Her full collection can be seen at www.katisternvenexiana.com
