The Fashion Group International of Sydney Presentation was an exciting panel discussion on May 18th at the Raffles School of Design featuring three prominent high-profile guest speakers, Nicola Finetti, Claudia Novone and Jacqueline Kayta.
Interpreting international trends, discussing the latest autumn/winter 2010 catwalks from abroad and debating how designers stay abreast of brief, transient trends were their chosen topics.
Potentially important set of 'individualistic' influences were identified - there are power shifts in the way people consume. Young consumers are emerging with disposable incomes. Designers have to crack the market and keep a fresh face, otherwise they will not survive.
The essential 2 things that designers posses is invention and signature. Innovation and creativity are indispensable and is a boon to make it in this fast-paced world of techobabble and all things fleeting.
Juxtaposing the latest trends is expensive season to season. Updating the whole look could cost 1000's of dollars, compared to just one accessory. Giving last season's outfit a new lease on life by pairing it up with this season's shoes or a new accessory does wonders. It gives the illusion that you are creating an updated new look. In fact, you are.
Creative tension is important. Really innovative designers are evolving all the time. There is a need to look different and unique, not the same carbon copy. Progressive designers are catering for that fact.
When asked about Being Born Again Fashion Event, Davina Reichman answered, "Innovation with 360Fashion!"
She received sponsorship from Chic Management: Samantha Harris (who is on the current cover of Vogue Magazine), Emma Norris, Stephanie Murphy etc and those top models modeled for the show. ABC TV covered the show on "Art Nation" shown at 5pm and 7pm Sunday and online - Pedestrian TV covered Akira Isogawa & Lindy Lee collaboration. Davina created & facilitated the Michael Lo Sordo & Chris Horder collaboration for Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Michael is using Chris' prints for his fashion collection this season.
