However, I'm not that uninspired to cast-on countless pairs of socks. Like I have mentioned in the previous post, I've cast on a pair of Boyfriend Socks for myself. I'm on to the second one now....but still haven't taken any decent photos yet. So, you'll just have to wait for the FO picture.
Yarnissima's Brainless is being put on hold while I'm working on the BF socks....just too much cabling for me.
I found out from my boss at Lanaiolo after I've finished my Riverbed silk socks out of the OnLine Silk that OnLine is discontinuing that line....or well, they haven't got it in their up-coming season. There are two other colourways (one of them being in the above photo, the other one is HERE) that I really like of the yarn, and seriously, I really like the feel of the silk blend yarn, too! So, what else is a knitter to do apart from grab them before they're gone. :-p (If anybody wants the yarn, we still have them at the shop - also in other colourways -....and you can order online via us, too. :-p)
Anyway, because the BF socks and Brainless are giving me too much cabling, I decided that I need to cast on for a simpler pair of socks and decided to grab the skein in the above picture and cast on for a pair toe-up Jaywalkers. Simple enough, but won't be too boring for me. ;-) Pictures will follow. :-p
So, talking about Lanaiolo, the second Knit-Night in 2009 is this Friday. Most of you that know the shop probably will be there anyway....but I think that we're pretty full already. Heck, give us a call if you want to see whether you can pop in. ;-)
Start: 26th November 2008
Finish: WIP
Needles: 4 mm - 80 cm Addi Lace
Yarn: Wollmeise 100% superwash merino Sockenwolle, "Single Malt", 2 skeins
Pattern: Fisherman's Rib with two strands held together over 26 stitches with 4 chain-edge stitches
I'm
just soooo not in control sometimes and ended up casting-on for
something new, while neglecting the near 15 other WIPs/UFOs floating
around my flat. But hey, a Knitter has to do what a Knitter does: Knit.
:-p
So, I got the urge to knit some Wollmeise last night but
wasn't in the mood for socks (coz really, I could've just picked up and
work on my Vinnland again). So I decided to go ahead with the plan of making a new scarf for myself out of my newly acquired skeins of Single Malt from my trip to Sauerlach last week.
I have to giggle a bit at the name I came up for the scarf, since it's a Fisherman's Rib and the colourway is called "Single Malt", I thought it appropriate to call this scarf: "Drunk Fisherman". :-p
This
is the first time that I'm knitting something using double strand of
yarns. At first I thought that it will look funny because the variation
of the colour length in each skein runs differently. However, to my
surprise, it gives an interesting blending effect...and the colour
actually now reminds me of lightly roasted coffee beans, too.
The
fabric created is also really nice and springy. I don't know what I was
expecting, fabric-wise, when I concoct this project in my mind....but I
have to admit that I really like the result.
What's left now is
my hope that the scarf will end up long enough with just these two
skeins. Fisherman's Rib literally devours the yarn...and really, I'm
speaking from experience.
Sorry about the long silence....but well, I broke my laptop last
Wednesday while I got this spurt to clean (which totally subsided as
soon as the computer broke).
I decided that I needed to wash the
table cloth which is under my laptop. I disconnected the laptop, lifted
the laptop up, pulled part of the cloth away and replaced the
laptop....without seeing that part of the laptop landed back on the
cloth. I was listening to some exciting Spanish music (...a tango...and
to be more exact it was "Por una cabeza"...my
favourite one forever...and I was listening to that exact version -
yes, I have the soundtrack) and decided to pull a table cloth out in a
passionate fashion....
...as you can guess, the laptop came
a-flying with the cloth. It landed on the floor with a thud....and when
I tried turning it on, it made a sickening clicking noise and gave me
the infamous Blue-Screen-of-Death saying something along the line of
"Unmountable Boot Volume".
I actually panicked....coz I broke a laptop once already by dropping it on the floor (al contrario, sin tango).
And this time it seemed like history was repeating itself. Back then, I
had to send in the laptop for reparation, which took 6 weeks and EUR
250 (well, actually DM 500). And I didn't want that this
time...especially the six weeks period - not that I would have the
quids to spare either.
I crammed after some contacts and got a
friend of another friend. We met up, he took a look and said that it
definitely was the hard drive. He took my laptop with him and fixed it
for me, i.e. replaced the hard drive, pulled out whatever he could from
my old hard drive and set the laptop up for me again. I paid him
waaaaaaaaaaay less than what I would have to pay were I to send the
laptop in. Thank goodness....but then again, it's not like I have money
to spare, so I'm kinda broke right now. At least til the end of the
month.
Anyway, so now I've got my laptop back, with even more
memory...and it feels kinda new. So, yeah, I'm pretty happy, even
though the darn HP QuickPlay thing doesn't work any more (I haven't got
the recovery CD), but I hardly used it apart from watching DVDs anyway.
And for that purpose, I just downloaded some free third-party programme
and then I'm all set.
So yeah, here I am again. Back in the
beginning of September I had to unplug from the internet unwillingly
for a week because the German Telekom effed up something about the
contract. But I still had my computer to do stuff on. This time around
it was five days completely without computer. I felt as though someone
had cut off my arms....so the only sensible thing I could do was to
knit. Which bore fruit. :-p
I finished my Joukahainen! The
