This new fabulous show by Viktor & Rolf recycles the idea which they explored during their winter 1999 haute couture show yet reverses the thing as they undress the models this time…They remind me of the little grey men who help the onagata performer to change outfits during the episodes of a kabuki performance. They come in, pull a few strings, et voila transformation!!! Not only was the show inspired by recycling, the collection piece also shapshifted from one model to the other, while in the end the supreme piece went from a skirt to an exaggerated collar.

This year I am beginning to discover international designers who put a lot of effort into creating magnificent shows and it pleases me. I used to think that IT ALL HAPPENED in Copenhagen but this years edition of Amsterdam Fashion Week proved to me that the world is picking up on this trend. But this video is from a designer Vika Gazinskaya far away in the East Block. This absolutely beautiful video of the show made by Ernest Yakovlev. Vika is a young Russian designer who battels the old fashioned dogma that there’s is no living to be made out of art. She’s been told long ago that there is no fashion industry in Russia, which se says that she sees now herself. Still she hopes for a bright future and wants to become one of the big designers some day.
This year I once again had the honour of interviewing Paola Ivana Suhonen, designer of Ivana Helsinki. Paola is such a charming lady and is always very well dressed in a sort of rock’n’roll versus hippy chic style. This years collection is called Copper Chain. The copper chains are intergrated into most clothes. I absolutely love the metallic copper thread which was integrated into the knits. It is nice to see a deigner do something different with chains, because it’s a trend which you see quit a lot on fashionista’s. At Ivana Helsinki the chains were exaggerated and became huge accessories. Which were complimented by the chains which were hanging from the ceiling. Paola really knows how to take people into her story, into the concept of the collection! The shows always open up with a video which is created by Paola herself. Besides being a succesful designer she is studying in New York to be a filmmaker. I think it is special when a designer goes beyond the clothes and has some quality skills to add more to the overal impression of the brand. When you know the ropes you can have more control and it’s informtation coming straight from the designer without interpretation from others. So there is a straight dialogue between the designer and the guest/client. Absolutely fantastic as always!!!
I bumped into Wiktor in the Meatpacking District of Copenhagen during the Scoop Models presents ICON exhibition. He is such a nice person to talk to and has some amazing items in his wardrobe. I am stunned by the fast pace of his blog, he really can keep your attention. Wiktor is a model @ Scoop Models in Copenhagen and works internationally. His neverending love of fashion might bring him to Saint Martins in London some day. Is he the next vest thing? I am definitely in love with his style!

An unusual collaboration has resulted in an unusual art project to be launched in February during Danish Fashion Week at gallery DASK. The project is called ICON and is the work of SCOOP MODELS and two graphic designers − Dennis Lynge and Michael Nygaard.
ICON blends historical methods of representing ideals of beauty with modern concepts of the perfect body. Nine models from SCOOP MODELS − who are particularly representative of current trends in beauty − have been selected and their bodies have been recreated as photos of classical marble statues. Photos that reflect the fashion industry’s perception of beauty, youth and perfection. In this way the ICON project is not only an original art project but also a way of handing the beauty ideals of 2010 over to the future.
The models from SCOOP MODELS are Amanda Nørgaard, Marikka Juhler, Nina Lund, Trine Hyldtoft, Albert Krarup, Jesper Lund, Mathias Lauridsen, Michael Winther and Sebastian Lund.
The exhibition opens with a reception on Tuesday, 9th February 5:00pm at gallery DASK, Flæsketorvet 24, 1711 Copenhagen V − and will be on show until Sunday the 14th February.
